Gym Jam Host Ethan Filner has been an advocate for sharing joy through chamber music for over 20 years. Violist of the internationally acclaimed, San Francisco-based Cypress String Quartet for 15 years, he moved to Ontario in 2016 and quickly got busy freelancing all over the province in both orchestral and chamber music performances. He joined the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra as Assistant Principal Viola in 2019; the Alberta Baroque Ensemble as Principal Viola in 2021; and the viola section of the Chamber Orchestra of Edmonton in 2023. He is a co-founder of the High Level Trio, active in Northern Alberta since 2021 as performers, educators, commissioners and recording artists of new music, and creators of both the Windsor Park Chamber Music Workshop and the new “High Level Trio & Friends” chamber music series. Oddly enough, one of Ethan's favorite things to do when he's not at work playing the viola is to play the viola and violin just for fun at the occasional chamber music sightreading party.
